City Saver and Group Traveller

Periodical Metcards

Periodical tickets such as Weekly, Monthly and Yearly Metcards will only be valid for weekend travel in the zone for which they have been purchased.

Seniors Daily

The Seniors Daily Metcard will continue to be available after 1 January 2009.

Seniors can save time with the 5 x Seniors Daily now available from Premium Stations, Metcard retail outlets, the MetShop and online.

Seniors are reminded that for some travel, concession Metcards may be cheaper than the Seniors Daily.

For more information on Seniors Daily Metcards including the best ticket option for seniors, see Metcard ticketing changes Q&As – effective from 1 January 2009.

Sunday Saver

Sunday Saver Metcards will only be available from Premium Station ticket windows.

Back

2 hour

Individual 2 hour tickets will no longer be available from Metcard retail outlets and online.

You will still be able to buy 2 hour Metcards at stations and onboard buses and trams at the time of travel.

For more information on 2 hour Metcard changes see Metcard ticketing changes Q&As – effective from 1 January 2009.

Students

Students will be able to obtain a Victorian Student Pass that will be valid for travel on all metropolitan public transport, V/Line train services and bus services in more than 30 regional cities.

With the raising of the child concession age by two years from next year, young people will no longer need a concession card to purchase a concession Metcard until they turn 17.

The introduction of the Victorian Student Pass in regional cities will ensure that customers in regional areas have the same travel benefits as metropolitan Melbourne.

Regional bus

Customers across more than 30 regional cities will also enjoy a discount with the introduction of a monthly bus ticket.

The ticket provides unlimited travel within a regional city bus network and will cut down on travel times with a smaller number of tickets being purchased onboard buses.

Other ticketing announcements and offers for 2009 include:

  • Four weekends of free bus travel in Zone 2. Buses are improving public transport accessibility in Melbourne’s outer suburbs and this initiative will encourage more Zone 2 travellers to consider travelling by bus.
  • A 5 per cent discount for people pre-purchasing their Metcards online will be offered periodically. The online discount will mean that customers get an even better price, making bulk purchasing, such as the 10 x 2 hour Metcard, even better value.
  • A free travel package for homeless youth will provide $50,000 worth of Metcards to a number of organisations to give homeless youth better access to essential services.
